The Trinity test was the first detonation of a nuclear weapon, conducted by the United States Army on July 16, 1945. It took place at 5:29 a.m., about 35 miles southeast of Socorro, New Mexico. The test was part of the Manhattan Project, which developed the atomic bomb during World War II.
