Living Alaska, Build Back a Better Life
The Do Over- How to Live a Better Life
The Do Over
I came to Alaska to build back better. I am not talking about roads, bridges, airports, or railways, I am talking about building myself back better. I started by riding my bicycle from San Francisco, California to Alaska. I left my job, an apartment I had lived in for 14 years, my friends, family, and my social network. No matter where you live once you have been there for years it becomes home. It is what you know, who you know, and most importantly where you are comfortable. That can be good or bad.
Why I Left Everything Behind
My old neighborhood was bad, leaving it behind was a blessing. The neighborhood was not nice, the crime rate was in the stratosphere. There were homeless people living in my front yard, backyard and breaking into my apartment monthly. I was so accustomed to the grit and grime of the inner city I had forgot what the real world looked like. I started training to ride my bicycle to Alaska in January of 2021. By March of 2021 I was riding fifty miles a day and working out in the gym for another 2 hours. The more time I spent away from my neighborhood the clearer my head got.
