Living Alaska, Free Beer

There is a little bar down the street from my apartment. I go there to watch football on Sundays and Monday Nights. I sit near the corner of the bar because the angle of the T.V. is best. There is a bell hanging from the ceiling. It is about three feet away from where I sit. I like the sound of it ringing. I have heard it many times. It is the sound of Free Beer.

For other people it is great fun hearing that bell. They get free drinks. I quit drinking years ago, but like the non-alcoholic beers. I can sit at the bar and have a beer or two and watch the football games. I do not have to worry about driving home or getting in a drunken brawl with other patrons. I do not forget the bartenders name or the girl sitting next to me. I usually give them my free drink tokens they pass out when the bell rings. My N.A. beers are cheap, alcohol in Alaska is not cheap. It makes financial sense to give them to my friends.

I like hanging out watching the games. The bartenders know what I drink now. I have been going there for six months. Sometimes I shoot pool or meet friends there. It is a small town; nobody pressures me to drink alcohol. I still like hearing the bell ring though. It puts everyone in a good mood. One night the bell rang seven times. My friend got really drunk, I stopped giving him my tokens after the fourth bell. Now I practice diversity and give them to various people. It is fun giving away free beer.

One day I will be able to ring the bell on my own, but until then, from Ketchikan, Alaska with love.
