Living Alaska, Service Animals
My Emotional Support Grizzly Bear
I rode my bicycle from San Francisco California to Ketchikan, Alaska in June of 2021. I arrived in Alaska on July 9th, 2021. During the 1,700-mile 28 day ride I had plenty of time to reflect on my life up to that point. I originally planned on spending a few days in Alaska, and then flying back to San Francisco where I had lived for the past 20 years. About halfway through my ride I started to think, what it would be like to live in Alaska? By the time I crossed the Columbia River which straddles the Oregon, Washington State border, I had determined to make my ride one way. There would not be a flight home.
Moving from your home and leaving everything you own behind is not the recommended way to move. I can attest to that personally. In retrospect, you should plan your move carefully and pack what you need first and if there is room left over, pack what you want. I left home with my camping gear, two t-shirts, a pair of jeans and my riding gear. I purchased rain gear at the North Face Outlet store in Lincoln, Oregon. I was traveling as light as possible to make the 1,700-mile journey easier on my body.
