Moving Across Town

I moved to Alaska in July of 2021. This weekend I moved across town to a new apartment. It was a good move, both due to the timing and the location. Ketchikan, Alaska is a tourist town and during the spring and summer we are flooded with Cruise Ships as well as hunters, fishers, and adventurist.

Timing is Everything

During the springtime trying to find an apartment is problematic. Seasonal workers flood the town. They need a place to stay and rent every available apartment in town. Last summer I got here during the height of the “season” and found out the hard way. I looked all over town, and nothing was available. I ended up in studio the size of a queen-size bed. Good thing I was single. Honestly, I had a walk-in closet once that was bigger than my first apartment. When a larger unit became available in the same building, I took it. It was a simple move upstairs because I arrived in Alaska with two t-shirts and a pair of jeans. I had not accumulated much in the first three months.

Ten Trips

This weekend’s move was a little different. I still do not have much furniture, but “where did all this stuff come from”. I made about 10 trips with my little Toyota…
