I moved to Alaska on July 9th, 2021. I needed a job, an apartment and something to do on my days off. I have been here for eight months and have yet to take a day off. I have days that I did not work, but it does not feel that way. I was so busy for the first six months that I never thought “what am I going to do today”? Laundry, groceries, repairs, chores, and my never-ending story, writing.

I enjoy writing. I have always loved to write essays, poems, and short stories. I tried my hand at writing a non-fiction book about riding a bicycle from San Francisco, California to Alaska. It took me two months to write, and three months to edit. Someone read it and liked it, yeah. They encouraged me to have it professionally edited and published. I hired an editor and sent her my book. It took me three months to edit my own book, so I figured I should be kind and give her three months to edit it. So far so good.

I started writing this blog about moving to Alaska while my book is being edited. I am a lifelong Californian and some things in Alaska I love. Some are different, some are weird and others just strange. I write on the new things daily. I woke up this morning and realized I have nothing to do today. Nothing that must be done. I did laundry, grocery shopping and chores yesterday. It is a first…
