Living Alaska, the North Pole
Santa Claus is real, he lives in North Pole, Alaska, population 2,103. They count Elves as people at the Census Bureau. I saw him the other day, shoveling snow off his toy factory parking lot. I stopped to say hello and asked him “why the Elves were not shoveling the snow”? He told me they were too busy wrapping toys. They do not like the cold weather anyway.
There are reindeer in Alaska. They were brought to Alaska in the late 1800’s by native Scandinavians. They flourished after several attempts to train the natives to breed reindeer. There are over twenty thousand reindeer today in Alaska. They can be used as draft animals in the arctic regions. The sled dogs get jealous of their prowess at pulling heavy loads through snow.
Santa was out feeding his heard when I last saw him last week. They eat grass and native shrubs that live in the Arctic regions. He seemed happy, and the reindeer were looking good too. I did not see Rudolph. I looked for his nose but to no avail. Maybe he is still recovering from Covid? Hopefully, he will be feeling better soon enough.
This will be my first Christmas in Alaska. I will not be home but out working off the coast. I will have prime rib and all the fixings with my crewmates. I am looking forward to seeing Santa’s fully loaded sled take off. I bought a new pair of binoculars for the occasion. I can use them to spot ships at sea when not Santa watching. Happy Holidays, from North Pole, Alaska with love.
