Flying in Alaska
I fly a lot these days, going here, going there. On average, I fly twice a month, usually for work, but only sometimes. I used to get excited about flying, but now it’s the same as boarding the bus, something you do to get from point A to point B. I rode the bus a lot in San Francisco, which was interesting.
It is not a Bus Ride
In Alaska, the bus would not get you far. In Ketchikan, it travels to Walmart and back. I wonder if Walmart subsidizes the bus. The plane is not subsidized, and there needs to be more competition in Alaska. Alaska Airlines grew into a large Airline because it had no competition in Alaska.
Modes of Transport
Well, that is not fair, they had competition, but without the profit potential, the competition was sparse. Alaska and flying are synonymous with travel. People traveled by ship, dog sled, or foot in the old days. We still use those means of travel, but cars and airplanes have become the number one mode of transport.
Getting Home
I work for the Department of Transportation; I know a bit about the subject. Alaska is a state with over 2,400 islands. Small towns and villages dot the State…
