Living Alaska, Women with Guns
I went to the local Gun Shop in Alaska this afternoon. I found my Christmas present on the second shelf right next to a 9mm semi. The caliber was a bit larger than the nine, but I was told “even it would not stop a bear. But it would certainly piss a bear off”. I agreed wholeheartedly. I am not a 500-pound bear, but if I was, getting hit with a nine does not sound fun. Things are a little different here in Alaska. Guns are like raincoats and boots. Everybody has them. Some people never leave home without them.
I was taking a class at the local university a couple of days ago. A female classmate told me about her new gun she just bought. I was interested so she pulled it out of her backpack and showed it to me. The girl sitting next to me said she had the same one but the gold-plated version. It was a nice looking nine-millimeter with a short barrel, perfect for a purse or small fanny pack. The teacher looked over and said, “nice gun.” We all went back to work as the break was over. Nothing unusual here and no cause for panic.
I was out with a few friends at the bar the other day, my friends phone started ringing. The phone was in her purse, so she pulled out her gun, put in on the bar while fishing for her phone.
