Science Friction

It is not a typo. Yes, I write science fiction blogs and stories. This blog is not about science fiction, it is about Friction. Friction, as in “conflict or animosity caused by a clash of wills, temperaments, or opinions”. My science fiction creates science friction. I write things and people get upset. They take it personally or say “that can not happen. We do not have that technology. You can not say that because it is not true”. They want to tell me why it cannot be done.

I want to tell them why it can. Is it theoretically possible? Science fiction writers run into a major problem when it comes to theoretical physics. Some believe in Quantum Mechanics and others do not. It is a complicated world of science when the math say one thing and the human mind tells you, uh no. When common sense tells you it cannot happen and the math tells you something completely different. This is where I like to start.

It makes some people upset and others think harder. I like the ones that do not disagree but just accept the possibility that there might be an alternate explanation. When writing about alternate realities, space travel and time, it is easy to get confused about what is, what can be, what will be. Even Loki gets it wrong sometimes.

I do not challenge known concepts of time and space but rather use them to my advantage. You can write a lot of science fiction stories using space, time and travel. It is fun. It is not suppose to be real science but fun, playful, fiction. The science part adds mystique and intrigue to story. I am not trying to cause Friction but rather write Fiction.
